Simone Okoye came back to school for a piece of paper, not a teacher. Dr. Elias Vance has been teaching Victorian literature for twenty-five years, has one good book in him left, and absolutely will not be lectured to by a thirty-two-year-old undergrad in the front row. By October they've made each other miserable. By November Simone has read the draft of his manuscript that nobody was supposed to see. By December she's done something reckless with it - and the department is already circling. He's her professor. She's his student. There's a rule for this, and there's a right way through it, and Elias Vance is the only man in the building who would actually take it. It takes a whole semester. Then it takes coffee.
