Le XXI siècle verra-t-il l'avènement du Pacifique nord en tant que principal centre économique mondial comme le prédisent de nombreux observateurs? Que cela soit ou non le cas, cette région du monde continuera à peser d'un poids croissant dans les relations économiques internationales. L'Asie joue bien évidemment le premier rôle dans ce ré-équilibrage économique planétaire entamé dès la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale. Le dynamisme dont ont su faire preuve au cours des deux ou trois dernières décennies nombre de pays en développement d'Extrême Orient et d'Asie du sud-est en est largement à l'origine.
