The internal logic of the Nazi movement and the Third Reich is intertwined with that of Hitler: one cannot be understood without first considering the other. How did an individual with little education or culture, whose life until the age of 30 had been a series of failures, manage to impose his will on a large modern country before leading it into a military and moral catastrophe unique in history? The answer to this question begs another: can what happened in Germany happen again?
Jean Genet (1910-1986) was one of the most decisive writers of the 20th century. His work, consisting of poems, autobiographical novels, plays and short essays, was the subject of violent attacks, which are still going strong after his death. Some see it as indecent, provocative or an exposé of homosexuality. His defense of revolutionary movements made him a "declared enemy". This Comprendre Genet (Understanding Genet) is designed to break with stereotypical images: Genet is at war, first and foremost with himself. What is he looking for? For Evil to explode, leaving readers and viewers lost, haggard, with no one to turn to but themselves!
For some, Péguy is "an anarchist who put holy water in his oil"; for others, a dangerous rebel whose "head is full of revolution". A socialist and a Catholic, a pious poet and a raging polemicist, Péguy turns out to be a man with a sometimes chaotic, always leaping journey. Few authors have had such a controversial posterity as he. One hundred years after his death, it is time to do justice to this unclassifiable thinker, little known in his time, and who has so much to say in ours. Yves Rouvière's drawings are there to give substance to the words, to "embody the spiritual", according to one of Péguy's cherished intuitions.
Freud's name is inseparable from his discovery of the unconscious and the consequences he drew from it: psychoanalysis. This book takes up the issues raised by Freud with force and clarity, and sheds light on the crucial points. It shows how psychoanalysis' assault on humanity's self-esteem is still relevant today. To understand Freud is to enter the stage of otherness: we are not our only brain, nor our only body, nor our only family... Our specificity is to be subjects who speak, subject to the language that desire liberates.
Emancipation is the real thread running through Marx's thought. He's not concerned with capitalism, or Marxism for that matter, but with capital: it's this fundamental notion that we need to return to in order to understand Marx's thought and communism. This also requires resituating the richness of his argumentation in the light of his life's journey, rather than the myth that has been forged around the father of "Marxism". Denis Collin helps us understand Marx's ideas and why he deserves to be considered one of humanity's greatest thinkers.
