Rare Treasure Editions | 21 mai 2024

The story follows the adventures of Geoffrey and Alys de Villacours, who in 1212 set out on a great crusade of children, bent on making their way to the Holy Land to free Jerusalem. The marching clolumn of children got as far as Marseilles on their own, but were then tricked onto the ships of unscupulous traders who sold them into slavery. Geoffrey and Alys were separated on that voyage, but both became the slaves of the Governor of Egypt. The Children's Crusade really happened, and this is a wonderful introduction to the history of the period.

Anxious for adventure and still longing for the sea, Harald, the young Viking hero of VIKING'S DAWN, is readily persuaded to join Prince Arkil of Denmark in a quest lor the treasure guarded by the Irish giant, Grummoch. Thus begins a strange and exciting series of adventures which take Harald and his shipmates from their native fjords to Ireland, Moorish Spain, and across the Mediterranean to the golden domes of Constantinople (Miklagard), and after many hardships overland through Central Europe to their home again. Full of color and movement, of battles and escapes, of long voyages across most of the known world, of treachery and loyalty, of courage and steadfast friendships, the story describes with sympathy and understanding a world younger and harsher than the one we know. An exciting adventure story in a remarkable setting. The Viking Trilogy is a trilogy of juvenile historical novels by Henry Treece. They are Viking's Dawn, The Road to Miklagard and Viking's Sunset.

The idea of Harald Sigurdson's last voyage came to Henry Treece when a young friend of his told him of the finding of the prow of a Viking longship in a lake in North America. He set out to devise a story round the kind of man who could make this incredible voyage from Scandinavia to the then unknown continent. This is the story of how Harald and his friend Giant Grummoch set out in pursuit of marauding Vikings who have raided their homesteads, but instead of catching Haakon Redeye and his vicious companions, are swept by rough seas to far-off Greenland. Here they are befriended by Eskimos, and then sail still further westwards, to the land of the redskins, where Harald meets warriors as proud as his own, and fights against treachery crueller than death itself. In this final, moving volume of Henry Treece's trilogy of the Vikings, there is a shatteringly vivid picture of the stark fate of these early seafarers, and of the brave spirit with which they rose to meet it.

Couverture ebook de Red Queen, White Queen, de Henry Treece
Rare Treasure Editions | 8 novembre 2021

In his new novel Henry Treece takes as his subject the insurrection of the British queen, Boudicca (Boadicea), in the year 61 A.D. This bloody upheaval, caused by the unjust demands of Nero, resulted in the deaths of some seventy-thousand Romans and their `collaborators'. Colchester and St. Albans were gutted and London reduced to ashes. Against this background, Henry Treece sets his hero, Gemellus, a young Roman soldier who is sent out on a mission which might make or break him. His love for Eithne, a British girl, gives rise to a poignant division of loyalties, of a kind that soldiers have known throughout history.

Couverture ebook de The Dark Island, de Henry Treece
Rare Treasure Editions | 8 novembre 2021

Battle, intrigue and Druidism followed to their brutal conclusions in the dark pre-Christian world of the Celts... Henry Treece explores a period in British history when magic and murder were matter-of-fact and the 'civilising' influence of Rome had yet to make headway against the dark and powerful undertow of the Celtic spirit. Something of a cult classic.

Couverture ebook de The Golden Strangers, de Henry Treece
Rare Treasure Editions | 8 novembre 2021

This novel is set in the period in which Stonehenge was built. It tells the story of the invasion of the Southern country of Britain by the Golden Strangers, the men of the Sun from across the seas who come in search of fresh pastures. The invaders are turned back from the Village on the Hill, Craig Dun, by Garroch, the young Chieftain of the primitive and terror-ridden community. But his triumph is short-lived, for he falls under the sensual spell of Isca, the golden-haired princess who rides with the invaders. Set at a vital cross-roads in history, this is the story of a young Prince of the dawn world, his henchmen and his woman. It shows the triumph of the fair-haired nomads from the North. The Golden Strangers  is a simple, direct and very moving story; and it is one that should be told, for it is the beginning of the story of Britain, of primitive Britain and the dark savage people who were conquered by THE GOLDEN STRANGERS.
