''The Yearling'' is the Pulitzer Prize-winning coming-of-age novel by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. It follows a young boy named Jody Baxter growing up in the harsh, isolated wilderness of post-Civil War Florida. His life changes when he adopts an orphaned fawn named Flag, teaching him deep lessons about love, responsibility, and the painful realities of growing up. This young boy living in the Florida backwoods is forced to decide the fate of this fawn he has lovingly raised as a pet. This classic American novel explores Jody's deepest desire for a pet as he forms an unbreakable bond with Flag. The fawn represents the innocence of Jody's childhood. But this is an unforgettable tale for all ages.
