Publicações do Cidehus | 27 mai 2024

As an essential contribution to the study of History in its various aspects, this book demonstrates the importance of sciences such as Palaeography, Diplomatics, Sigillography, and Codicology in understanding the societies of the past and their articulation with the future, by using current tools through the Digital Humanities. In Between Lines and Notarial Marks: Documentation Sciences in rebuilding the past, we are able to gain a better understanding of the past through these sciences, each with its own specific scope of analysis, demonstrating clearly how interdisciplinarity can be beneficial to writing history. But we have achieved more: we have understood the importance that these sciences have in archives and teaching today, and the challenges that the Digital Humanities represent for each of them and for the production of knowledge about the past, in a truly international analysis.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: Christopher Marlowe wrote The Jew of Malta at the height of his career, and it remained popular until England's theaters were closed by Parliament in 1642. Many have critiqued it for its portrayal of Elizabethan antisemitism, but others argue that Marlowe criticizes Judaism, Islam, and Christianity equally for their hypocrisy. This antisemitism debate continues on to Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, which was written about ten years later and which some consider to be directly influenced by The Jew of Malta.

Audiolib | 2 juin 2026

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The word quantum is evocative, bewildering, and fascinating. It is a testament to the success of science, but it is also a symbol of the limited scope of human intuition as we struggle with the inescapable strangeness of the subatomic domain. #2 The world around us is made up of atoms, and the more we understand about the elemental nature of the world, the simpler it seems. The rules of the game are simple, but their consequences are not always easy to calculate. #3 Quantum theory was precipitated by the discovery of natural phenomena that could not be explained by the scientific paradigms of the time. It was a period of experimental and theoretical innovation that truly deserves to be called a golden age. #4 The term `quantum' was first used in 1900 by Max Planck to describe the radiation emitted by hot objects. He found that he could only explain the properties of black body radiation if he assumed that light is emitted in little packets of energy.

Everest Media LLC | 11 octobre 2022

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The first time I tried to answer the question What does it mean to become a mother. it involved pumping two or so ounces of breast milk that would become just one of the two bottles I needed to feed my infant at day care the following day. I sat in that closet and pumped and pumped, and when the milk didn't come, I sat in that closet and pumped some more, until I was so frustrated that my back hurt and my breasts felt like they were going to explode. And still the milk wouldn't come. I was desperate. I wanted to know what it means to become a mother, but I couldn't get an answer. Still unable to produce enough milk for my baby, I went back to work. I needed more information, but more information was not coming. I was four months postpartum-the time of most intense lactation-and this still wasn't enough milk. How long would this take. -> What does it mean to become a mother. For many women, the answer is scary because it means examining how they are different from nonmothers, and from a male perspective, how much less interesting they are. #2 This is not a parenting book. I have two kids, and I have written a book describing my experience as a new parent. I am not a parenting expert. #3 This book will not give you advice on how to raise your child or how to be a parent. It will instead explore the biological changes and lived experience that makes parenthood so profound. #4 The idea that we are the dedicated mother bird, guided by a maternal instinct that has been perfected through the ages, is bullshit. We are not naturally caring for our children. We are not born with the ability to do so.

Sample Book Insights: #1 While I can understand how science has undermined faith in some aspects of traditional religion, I see no reason why advances in science should have the same effect on the notion of inner or spiritual values. The need for inner values is more urgent in this age of science than ever before. #2 I have always been interested in the scientific basis for the effects of contemplative practice and the deliberate cultivation of qualities such as compassion, loving-kindness, attention, and a calm mind. If science can show such practices to be both possible and beneficial, then perhaps they can be promoted through mainstream education. #3 The word secular is often used in India to describe a tolerant and respectful attitude toward all religions. In the West, however, the word is often used to describe an antagonistic relationship between religion and secularism. #4 When negative attitudes toward religion are motivated by a concern for justice, they must be respected. The Norwood-St. Clair neighborhood was completely destroyed. The city's first commercial gas-liquefication facility had been built in 1941. #2 The grand Union Commerce Building was nearly three miles away from the explosion site, but the tremors were still felt inside the building. One occupant of the building was a fast-growing law firm: Jones, Day, Cockley Reavis. The company had represented East Ohio Gas for decades. #3 The idea of a law firm was just taking off in America in the 1910s. Law firms generally functioned as teams to share office expenses, rather than as a unit. But as companies grew and their legal needs became more complex, small groups of lawyers assembled into firms. #4 The law firm of Blandin Rice was like many others in the 1920s, a collection of isolated lawyers who practiced their own individual law businesses. The firm's leader, Frank Ginn, established a principle that would guide the place for decades: the firm must maintain its independence and freedom to turn down any representation.
