Figure majeure de la littérature canadienne contemporaine, elle est reconnue pour son engagement en faveur des **communautés autochtones** et pour son exploration des **inégalités sociales** et des **traumatismes historiques**. Son premier recueil de poésie, *North End Love Songs*, a remporté le **Prix du Gouverneur général** en 2013, et son roman *Les Femmes du North End* a été salué par la critique.
