It's All Coming Back to me Now
share
It's 2003 and Colin and his best friend Eugénie arelike every other teenager in Sainte-Foywaiting for the bus, hanging out at the mall, logging onto MSN, working weekend shifts, steering clear of their parents, and trying not to be rejects as they navigate their school's social hierarchies. Colin has two secrets: he's obsessed with Céline Dion, and he likes Yann, his older brother's friend. To be or not to be fake; for Colin, that's the question, and his heart wavers somewhere between silence, ambiguity, and truth. Whimsical and provocative, It's All Coming Back to Me Now is a heartfelt and timeless coming-of-age story.
Originally from Quebec City, Jean-Michel Fortier studied literature at l'Université Laval and film at l'Université de Montréal. He is the author of Le chasseur inconnu (The Unknown Huntsman), Les bains électriques (The Electric Baths), La révolution d'Agnès. It's All Coming Back to Me Now, the English translation of Tout me revient maintenant, is his fourth novel. He lives in Québec City.
Jonathan Kaplansky received a BA from Tufts University, an MA in French Language and Literature from McGill University, and an MA in Translation from the University of Ottawa. Kaplansky won the French Voices Award to translate Annie Ernaux's Things Seen (La vie extérieure), and recently translated the libretto for an opera by Hélène Dorion and Marie-Claire Blais: Yourcenar: une île de passions. He lives in Montreal.
Reviews and Praise
Poignant and hilarious, often on the same page, It's All Coming Back to Me Now is an extremely touching, first-person coming-of-age novel, a vibrant hymn to adolescence, to its great joys as well as its worst torments. Christian Saint-Pierre, Le Devoir
Praise for The Electric Baths
Through its fine translation by Katherine Hastings, The Electric Baths's exquisite language and wry omniscience result in a dark, delightful landscape of curious happenings. (, Foreword Reviews)
Fortier (The Unknown Huntsman) threads reality with dreams in this enchanting tale about a small unnamed village full eccentric characters and secrets [] slim and wispy with curious characters and effortless prose. (Publishers Weekly)
The Electric Baths is a clever book where we're only really sure what's happening when it's finally over [] a fun, enjoyable read (Tony Malone, Tony's Reading List)
